Stargazing

When I was a teenager I did yoga. My mother did yoga and for a while we went to classes together. Over the last year or so I started doing it again and I absolutely love it! So when I discovered my niece Star Lawes had become a qualified yoga teacher, I was very excited.

While Star was staying here earlier in November, she needed somewhere to teach her online yoga classes. I decided on the front of the house downstairs as I could keep the stove hot and she wouldn’t be disturbed.

I suddenly realize that it’s a part of the house I don’t use so much, but it was the first place I set to work on when I came here to live as it was in such a desperate state.

I repaired everything I could, put in some ceiling supports and decorated it with all the things I’d obtained from junk shops and flea markets over the years.

When I didn’t have the right materials, I became more creative painting floors and doorframes. I made a sofa out of old wood, and other pieces of furniture and I even made the doors.

At the time I was worrying that I wasn’t doing it properly and having a bigger budget would have made the difference. Looking back, I think having to think more creativity ended up with a more interesting result and a better and more creative use of materials. A short time after these rooms were featured in Elle Decor magazine which was naturally very exciting but also gave me confidence in what I was doing and that we don’t have to have a huge budget to create an interesting home.

Having my family stay is always such a special time, but there was something pretty amazing about having three generations of yoga enthusiasts in the house😊 and seeing Star doing her classes in this space I’d created made me so happy 💚

If anyone is interested in yoga, take a look at Star’s Facebook or Instagram (see link below) and feel free to contact her for any information 💚
